21/05/12: Getting to know... Chloe Banks
Our second interview is with Chloe Banks, author of 'Keeping Mum'. Find out what she has been up to in the past year and listen to an extract from her story:
1. How did you get into writing? Do you remember what was the first story or poem that you wrote?
I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. I used to write stories for my big sisters as birthday presents when I was really young. I remember my teacher making a fuss about a story I wrote when I was seven – telling everyone how brilliant it was. I loved the feeling that my writing had delighted someone, even then. When I was eight or nine I wrote a poem about my grandpa fighting in Burma during the war, it won a prize at school and went on to be published in a children’s anthology. As I got older I preferred to study science and maths, but an old school friend dared me to enter a novel writing competition. I ended up getting shortlisted and from then on I had the bug.

15/05/12: Getting to know... Derek Thompson
In the build up to Beyond the Horizon's e-book release, we will be bringing you a series of interviews with the writers who contributed to it. First up is Derek Thompson who wrote 'Rogue'.
1. How did you get into writing? Do you remember what was the first story or poem that you wrote?
At my junior school the best stories received a star (gold or green) and were pinned up on the classroom wall. There was one story I wrote about an alien visitor who brought gold and took away flint. And I remember standing up in assembly and reading out a poem about Christmas - I can still quote the first couple of lines. I'm not sure exactly what happened after that, but the writing bug then went into witness protection for a few years!
